The Mildred R. Popham and Carol L. Popham ’73 Scholarship for Teaching and Human Services

The Mildred R. Popham and Carol L. Popham ’73 Scholarship for Teaching and Human Services opens the door to a McDaniel College education for Glen Burnie High School graduates who want to build careers serving others and strengthening their communities.

Beginning with students entering McDaniel in fall 2027, eligible Glen Burnie High School graduates pursuing Criminal Justice, Education, Health Sciences, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, or Sociology will receive at least $40,000 annually toward their McDaniel education. This includes a $20,000 Popham Scholarship, made possible through the generosity of McDaniel alumni Bryson and Carol Popham ’73, plus at least $20,000 in matching institutional scholarships and grants from McDaniel College.

Created through the Pophams’ longstanding commitment to both McDaniel and the Glen Burnie community, and inspired by the extraordinary lives of Mildred R. Popham and Carol L. Popham, the scholarship is designed to make a McDaniel education more accessible for students preparing for careers that make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

The Scholarship Application Deadline is January 15. Eligible applicants must already have applied and been admitted to McDaniel College. Scholarship application review will begin in late January and awardees will be notified no later than February 15. Scholarship recipients must notify McDaniel of their intention to accept or decline the scholarship no later than April 1.
