Non-Degree Course Registration

The Graduate Non-Degree Course Registration Form is intended for students seeking to take graduate courses for professional development, continuing education or credits to maintain certification. Students who are seeking a Master’s degree or post-bachelor’s certificate should use the grad online application at: https://www.mcdaniel.edu/admissions-cost/graduate-admissions/select-your-graduate-application

This form should also be used by students wishing to register for courses for the following purposes:

The Graduate & Professional Studies (GPS) team will review the documentation that is required for the course(s) you wish to take prior to approving your registration.

Once (GPS) confirms your eligibility to register for the coursework you've selected, the Registrar's Office will complete your non-degree registration. You will receive a confirmation email with next steps and the credentials you will need to activate your McDaniel Student Account and access the MyMcDaniel Portal.

Note: The processing of Non-Degree registration requests will begin one week following the official opening of registration. Non-degree students will be considered based on seat availability.

What type of non-degree graduate course(s) are you registering for?

Professional Development Course (PDE) – Courses taken with the Prefix PDE for 0-2 graduate credits. PDE courses are usually taken for professional development to enhance skills and knowledge or meet professional continuing education requirements. PDE courses may not be transferred into any Master’s or Certificate Programs. (Note: CommonGround on the Hill coursework has a separate registration form)

Counseling Courses for Licensure (LCPC) – For students holding a MS in Counseling, or the equivalent counseling coursework background, seeking the credits toward LCPC

Elementary Math Instructional Leader Course Series – This is a series of 7-courses (21 credits). This series does not lead to a formal graduate certificate but has been approved by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) for Math Instructional Leader endorsement for PK-6. Upon completion of the series, students will be required to submit a transcript to MSDE for endorsement and meet all other MSDE requirements for endorsement.

TESOL Praxis Prep Series – This is a series of 5-courses (15 credits). This series does not lead to a formal graduate certificate but has been approved by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) for Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) for PK-6. Upon completion of the series, students will be required to submit a transcript to MSDE for endorsement and meet all other MSDE requirements for endorsement.

Wilson Reading Course Series – This is a series of 4 courses (10 credits) designed to lead to Level I certification through the Wilson Language Reading System. Students choosing this option must take all 10 credits in the series.

Pupil Personnel Worker Courses for Endorsement - Pupil Personnel Worker Courses – courses that meet the requirements leading to the MSDE endorsement as a Pupil Personnel Worker (MD requirement of 21 credits)

Administrator 1 Certification Internship Only (for former McDaniel students) - This option is restricted to former McDaniel students who have completed the series of Administrator 1 required courses but still need to complete the final internship

Pathway Prep to Special Ed Certification Course series - This is a series of five courses (15 credits) to prepare educators to pursue Special Education certification by taking the Praxis II (this program is restricted to employees from Baltimore County Public Schools joining the Fall 2022 cohort).

Non-Degree Student Policy – Important Information

Non-degree seeking students are required to provide a transcript showing a bachelor’s or master’s degree with a 2.5 GPA or higher. Students taking Professional Development Courses (PDE) must provide an official bachelor's transcript showing degree conferred and date. If you have recently taken courses as a non-degree student (within the past two years), you do not have to re-submit official transcripts. Non-degree students are limited to taking only approved courses and up to 9 credit hours with the exception of the following approved course series: EMIL, TESOL, and Wilson Reading.

Non-degree students must request registration each semester as a non-degree seeking student through this registration process.

Please note that courses taken as a non-degree seeking student are not guaranteed to transfer to a degree or certificate program. Transfer approval is dependent upon current program requirements, grade earned and completion date. Any course older than 6 years, will not be considered for transfer.

Students wishing to move to a degree or certificate program after taking courses as a non-degree student must apply through the Graduate Admission application process Grad Admissions - How to Apply and will be required to meet all admission requirements of the graduate program of choice.
